One thing you must remember is that books represent super-reality, not reality. If books were about normal days and normal solutions, people would just live their lives.
That said, I'm a little dissatisfied with your happy finale. Not because it doesn't have the correct tone, but because it looks like you just decided that it was a good place to stop rather than actually being a conclusive ending point.
The other problem with the ending is that we never actually see snape break. We have a magnificent buildup to that breaking point, with his barriers going lower and lower, but we never actually get to see the *snap* of him finally giving in to hermione. It wouldn't necessarily be anything too out of character, but it would be a major character development, and by ending the story where you did, you ignored that plotline entirely.

This is simultaneously one of the best and one of the worst fics I read. It was a haunting joy to read, so thank you! And it hits somehow rather close to home for me, because for some time now I am stuck with reading fanfiction and seemingly can't stop it even though I schould, because there is a life to live out there. So I'm trying to prove you wrong while I break my personal loop and use your story as a wake-up call to do so. A second "thank you" for that.

I absolutely love this fic and this is probably the fourth time I've reread it. I originally read it over at Ashwinder around 04 or 05. This is actually the first time I've reread it over here so it's the first time I saw your updated authors note and that you had removed the "coffee" ending. The way you chose to end it definitely makes sense since rarely is the first answer the correct one. Though I say with utmost respect that the more realistic ending terrifies me.
Annnyway, even though I prefer the coffee ending I just wanted to pop in and tell you how enjoyable I think your work is. :
